The Best Backyard Games You’ve Never Heard Of.
ENTRY NO. 862
LADDERBALL (A.K.A. Ladder Toss, Lasso Golf, Ladder Golf, North Dakota Golf, Norweigian Golf, Läderbölen)
What you need to play:
- 2 ladders (typically made of PVC) (1 per team)
- 6 bolas (essentially 2 balls connected by a rope) (3 per team)
Ladderball is all about trying to lasso your bolas onto the rungs of the ladder to score points. Maybe the closest relative to Ladder Ball is “Cornhole” AKA “Bags,” but we can attest that you look way cooler throwing a bola than throwing a beanbag. Each ladder rung is assigned a different point value. Scoring methods vary, but the Mosquito Hunters rules value the top rung at 3 points, the middle rung at 2 points, and the lowest rung at 1 point. Points are tallied at the end of each round, after all teams have thrown their bolas. The bolas suspended on the ladder score the points for that rung, often with the goal of getting at least 21 points to win.
Fun fact: The bola is a South American device most famously used by the Argentinean gauchos back in the 19th century when hunting for wild game. Also, we saw Batman use a bola to catch the Joker one time.
